Below is a list of classes offered throughout the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver Association. Please check with your location for specific classes, times and dates. Click on the title below to see the full description of the class.

Pike
|
Ages 3-5
|
Beginner I ~ Preschool Swimmer
|
A child having little or no experience swimming independently, but comfortable when
separated from parents. Children will work on: floating; basic paddling strokes
(front, back, & side); kicking skills; and gain comfort having their faces in the
water.

Ages 3-5

Beginner II ~ Preschool Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to (with a float belt): front & back float 20 sec.;
paddle on their front, back, & side (10 yards with a float belt & 5 feet without
a float belt).

Advanced Beginner I ~ Preschool Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: jump in the water without assistance; paddle
on their front, back, & side (15 yards with a float belt & 15 feet without a float
belt); and front & back float for 20 seconds with or without a float belt.

Advanced Beginner II ~ Preschool Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: front & back float for 30 sec.; tread water
for 20 seconds; swim front paddle with rudimentary rhythmic breathing, back and side alternating
paddle (each stroke 15 yards with a float belt & 20 feet without); front and back
symmetrical paddle ( each stroke 25 yards with a float belt & 20 feet without).

Ages 6-14

Beginner ~ School-Aged Swimmer

A child having little experience swimming independently. Children will work on:
floating; basic paddling strokes (front, back, & side); kicking skills; and gain
comfort having their faces in the water.

Advanced Beginner ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: front & back float for 30 seconds (with or
without a float belt); paddle on front, back & side (25 yards with a float belt
& 20 feet without a float belt); and jump into the water unassisted.

Intermediate I ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: front and back float for 1 minute; tread water
20 seconds; swim the front crawl with rhythmic breathing, side & back alternating
paddle, and front & back symmetrical paddle for 40 feet each without floatation.

Intermediate II ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: float 3 minutes; swim (each for 25 yards) the
front crawl with rotary breathing and back crawl in good form; rudimentary breaststroke,
sidestroke, and elementary backstroke; and tread water for 1 minute.

Advanced I ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
The child should already be able to: float 6 minutes; swim the front crawl, back
crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke for 50 yards.; swim 15
yards. butterfly; and tread water 3 minutes.

Advanced II ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
|
The child should already be able to: float 6 minutes (in clothes); swim the front
crawl with bi-lateral breathing for 100 yards.; swim the breaststroke, back crawl,
elementary backstroke, & sidestroke for 100 yards.; swim 25 yards. butterfly; and tread
water for 6 minutes.

Porpoise Club
|
Ages 6-18

Advanced II ~ School-Aged Swimmer
|
|
The Porpoise Club is designed for children with intermediate or higher swimming
skills who like to workout and have fun. Emphasis is placed on endurance and stroke
improvement, but also includes fun aquatic activities.

Riptide Swim Team (Arvada location only) Ages 6-18

Private Lessons
These 30 minute private lessons for children are offered on an individual basis.
Request a day and a time by completing the Private Lesson Request form available
at the Front Desk. You will be contacted when a spot is available.
Semi Private Lessons
Semi-private lessons are 1:2 or 1:3 ratio. These lessons include 30 minutes of instruction. Request a day and a time from the aquatic director.
Advanced Swim Team Workout
For advanced swimmers only, this will incorporate a competitive workout using fins, kicking drills, and pull buoys. Swimmers MUST be proficient in all four competitive strokes for one hour in order to take this program. A recommendation from a coach is strongly suggested before registering. (Check with your branch for availability.)
Swim Conditioning
Private, Semi-Private & Master Instructor lessons
This class is designed for anyone who would like to get or stay in shape, train for a triathlon, or just find a non-impact workout. A qualified coach will lead the workouts in order to maximize your goals and keep you focused! Participants must be able to continuously swim 4 lengths of the pool to register.
Youth Stroke Clinics
Come join us in the pool to improve your stokes! Expert coaching advice and goal setting; stroke drills and practice; address stroke technique though swim videos; personal video taping and review of the strokes may be included in the session. *A minimum of 3 participants needed to run the class. (This program varies by location make sure to check with you branch if you are interested.)
Off-Track/Home School Swim Lessons
These lessons are for school-aged children who follow the Douglas Count school track schedule or are home schooled. Off-track lessons will include two lessons per week for three weeks (6 lessons total). Please see schedule at pool and front desk or contact the Aquatic Director for more information. (Currently offered at Littleton YMCA only).
SPLASH
Our signature launch into summer swim program. For 5 days and for only $5, YMCA Summer Splash teaches kids ages 3-14 to be safer in and around the water so they can have more FUN IN THE SUN! Program is scheduled to run the first week of June, watch for details.
S.N.A.P.
This program is for children who have physical or mental impairments that make a more personal class desirable. Classes will be held to 3 participants per instructor. Please schedule an evaluation with the aquatic director to assess ability. Beginner: No previous water experience or very limited swimming skills. Advanced Beginner: Can put face in water, float on front and back, some stroking skills. Intermediate: Front and back stroke skills as well as side, breast and elementary strokes for 50 meters (2 lengths).
