Code of Conduct for Youth Sports Coaches

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for my child and other children participating in youth sports by following this Coaches’ Code of Ethics:

I will demonstrate the YMCA core values, at all time, during practice and games, which include caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

I will not use drugs, alcohol or tobacco while in contact with players or on any property that the YMCA is using.

Any coach who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs during practices or games will be suspended from coaching.

I will not criticize players or officials.

I will accept the decision of the officials as being fair.

Should a concern about an official arise, I will refrain from making comments at the game.

I will contact the League Director at the YMCA and go through the proper channels to voice my opinion.

I will not criticize the opposing players, coaches or fans.

I will keep all sports environments safe and clean at all times and follow all school and YMCA policy and procedure during use of facilities.

I will not jeopardize a player’s health by allowing him/her to enter or re-enter a game once he/she is injured.

I will always be alert for any signs that would indicate a safety hazard.

I will ensure that activities serve as a foundation for life learning and are structured to help the athletes achieve their potential in spirit, mind and body.

I will always place the athlete first and winning second.

I will emphasize that winning is dependent on “teamwork”.

I will always exemplify and follow the rules of fair play and good sportsmanship.

I will refrain from using abusive and profane language toward anyone connected with the game or the organization.

I will play each child equally as mandated by the YMCA, and I will rotate my players equally and fairly.
