YMCA International, we are Global!
The Denver YMCA Volunteer International Committee's purpose is to foster global
understanding, partnerships, and service in Denver, other parts of our Country, and
Worldwide by addressing public needs that are mission-driven aspects of YMCA work.
These projects, which serve the YMCA mission, are undertaken by volunteers from
all of your local YMCA’s in Denver. Here are some examples of projects that have
been completed in the past, or are ongoing International Committee work:
- Local book drive, sending books to organizations in Tanzania
- Sponsoring cleft palate surgeries for children in Thailand
- Sending used sports equipment to areas in South America
- Presenting 250 children’s gifts, 200 coats, and a Christmas community dinner for
the Cherry Creek Native American Reservation near Dupree, South Dakota
- Hosting teens from the Chihuahua YMCA to participate in a basketball exchange program
- An educational and service trip to Chihuahua, Mexico for select Denver metro teens
- Monetary contributions to Empowerment International for school uniforms and equipment
for students in Nicaragua and El Salvador.
Funding for International Committee Projects is accomplished through allocations from branch annual support campaigns, individual donations, and sales of coffee and crafts.
