BUILDING STRONG KIDS THROUGH SPORTS

The YMCA sports philosophy is centered on participation, learning, and FUNdamentals. All sports programs are based on our YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and place a priority on family involvement, healthy competition, team building, fair play, improving sport skills, and creating a positive self image.

TOM GONNELLA HONORED AS SPORTS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Each year the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver celebrates volunters that have made a profound contribution to the YMCA at our Annual Meeting.  This year Tom Gonnella was recognized for his outstanding service for Youth Sports programs.  Tom has been a volunteer coach at the Schlessman YMCA for several seasons and demonstrates the character values that the YMCA embraces.  As a sports coach Tom has used his talents to encourage, guide and train young athletes at the Y.  His contribution to the YMCA will positively impact future generations of YMCA leaders and volunteers.  Congratulations Tom and thank you.

VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED

Be a part of your athlete’s experience by volunteering your time to their team. Every season we are in need of coaches for our youth sports teams.  No coaching experience is necessary, but basic knowledge of the sport is needed. The YMCA provides training. If you are willing to volunteer please contact the Athletic Director at the facility closest to you. A background check, reference checks and online trainings are required.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE/COMMUNITY SUPPORT CAMPAIGN

At the YMCA we want every child to enjoy youth sports. If you are able to help us sustain and increase opportunities for children to participate in our programs, please add an extra amount to your registration fee, make a gift online or visit any front desk to complete a pledge card to the YMCA Community Support Campaign. Your donation stays local and will help children realize their potential.  If you are unable to pay the full cost of Y membership or sports program fees, please apply for assistance by downloading an Open Doors Scholarship Application (Espanol) or visiting your local Y. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
