Aurora Family YMCA at Wheatlands Project Update
Plans to improve health and transform the lives of individuals and families in Aurora are moving ahead.
Final review of the plans of the Aurora Family YMCA at Wheatlands has been completed, and a 13-week design and development phase is in progress. Engineering and permitting will take place in the spring, with phase one construction set to start in the third quarter of 2019.
This multi-year project began in 2011 with an effort to transform, renovate, and expand the Y’s ability to effectively meet the diverse and growing needs of the Aurora area.
When completed, the Aurora Family YMCA at Wheatlands will directly support individuals and families with new and expanded Y programs for healthy living, aquatics safety, child care, education and teen leadership. Moreover, the Y will be a resource for low-income and minority families to bolster health outcomes, reduce drop-out rates, improve academic success, and promote child safety.
The YMCA will be an asset to the Aurora community and a gathering place for fitness, friendships, families and connections.
Encompassing an estimated 40,000 square feet and surrounded by city parks, walking paths, ball fields and open space, the Aurora Family YMCA will feature:
- Wellness studio
- Aerobics studio
- Cycling studio
- Child Watch
- Family locker room
- Party and community room
- Lap pool
- Activity pool
- Teen area
As Aurora’s population expands, the need for community, connection, and healthy living will only increase. Right now, you can help meet this growing demand by supporting the YMCA Aurora Capital Campaign. Launched in 2016, this campaign is dedicated to expanding the Y’s presence to better serve the people, families, and children of Aurora.
