New Partnership Brings Fitness and Fun to 1,400 Mentors and Children

Denver YMCA and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado collaborate to make a difference for kids

[DENVER, Dec. 12, 2016] – Everything’s better when we work together. That’s why in Denver, two large nonprofit organizations focused on empowering youth and improving lives are joining forces to further serve communities and children.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Denver and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBSC) announced today it will partner to provide no-charge YMCA memberships to mentors and children involved in BBBSC’s community-based mentoring program.

The new program is specially designed to let up to 700 “matches” – 1,400 mentors and youth mentees – visit the Y when they are together. As pairs, they can access all five metro-area YMCA branches, including recreational areas, gyms, and pools, plus take part in YMCA programs and activities.

Coming to the YMCA creates another way mentors and mentees can spend time together and strengthen their relationship. Moreover, it provides a sense of community and belonging that can be a game changer for children facing adversity.

Both the YMCA and BBBSC see the partnership as an ideal fit for the two organizations.

“The Y is all about giving kids safe spaces, a nurturing environment, and the resources and encouragement to reach their full potential,” said Jim Hiner, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver. “As a community partner, we’re excited to be able to collaborate with Big Brothers Big Sisters, which has such similar goals.”

Dave Ryan, CEO of BBBSC, agreed. “Big Brothers Big Sisters takes advantage of every opportunity to support our mentors and children and make a difference in their lives. By partnering with the YMCA, we give each match another way to bond, and another introduction to a world where people care about them and want them to succeed. We are excited to give our matches even more free options to engage in activities that promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle.”

The exclusive membership offer is available immediately for eligible BBBSC matches of mentors and children, for more info please contact the BBBSC at 303-433-6002.
