Downtown Y Receives Donation For Capital Campaign

Harmes C. Fishback Foundation Trust Continues to Invest in Community, Health and Future

$1 million donation propels Downtown YMCA renovation and bolsters community services

[Denver, November 10, 2016] – Soon, the downtown Denver community will become stronger. Families will have access to improved resources for childcare, wellness and education, and people of all ages will gain more opportunities for healthier living. These enhanced community benefits are all happening thanks to a $1 million donation from the Harmes C. Fishback Foundation Trust to propel the renovation of the Downtown Denver YMCA. This enhancement of the existing building includes new features such as expanded spaces for youth activities, health and disease prevention initiatives, plus a specialty fitness area.

“This generous donation will indeed help transform the 110-year-old historical building which houses the Downtown Denver YMCA,” said Jim Hiner, President & CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver. “More importantly, it will enhance and improve this long-standing gathering place, and make it possible for the YMCA to provide more programs and activities to serve the diverse and growing community of Downtown Denver. We are grateful for the Trust’s commitment to our branch and to our community.”

Jenna Stapleton, Executive Director of the Harmes C. Fishback Foundation Trust, said, “The Trust, a foundation run by the Stapleton family, has a history of seeking out partners and programs including the YMCA, that improve lives and help people thrive. We are proud to support the YMCA and to invest in a cause we care so much about.”

The donation from the Harmes C. Fishback Foundation Trust coupled with a $500,000 donation received from the Schlessman Family Foundation brings the YMCA halfway to its $3 million capital campaign goal. Opportunities to help the YMCA meet this goal are still available. Opportunities to help the YMCA meet this goal are still available.
