Fitness Classes

The Schlessman YMCA offers more than 75 fitness classes a week that are included with membership. Check out our fitness schedule for times and locations. Classes that may be offered include:

Arthritis Class This is a community-based recreational group exercise and education program designed specifically for people with arthritis and related diseases.  Helps reduce pain and stiffness, and help maintain or improve mobility, muscle strength and functional ability.  Level I Class

Balance Plus This class utilizes tai chi, strength and coordination exercise that will help you enhance your balance. All levels

Barre Blast!  Tone and elongate muscles quickly and safely! This low-impact, high-intensity class features ballet-inspired exercises that shape and tone hips and thighs. Execute a series of fast movements, sprinkled with active and dynamic stretches. This interval training burns fat and breaks through fitness plateaus, as you improve balance, posture, body awareness, flexibility and endurance.  Level II-III class

Les Mills Body Pump®   This high energy class is designed to work your whole body using barbells with adjustable weights. The focus is on strengthening, defining and toning muscles. The routines are easy to follow and deliver results FAST!  Great for both men and women!   Level II-III class 

Cardio &  Core  Prepare your body to take on the physical challenges of everyday activities. This class mixes Cardio with strength and balance training as well.

Cardio/Strength  For those who want to have a structured instructor led class on the cardio and weight machines.  You’ll get a great workout and have fun visiting with your friends. Level I- II class

Core and More  You will feel this workout!! Work your abs and glutes –plus a lot more!!  Inner and outer thigh work and strengthening exercises for your core and more! Level I-II class

Cycling  Experience one of the best indoor cycling workouts around! Certified instructors will take you through an imaginary ride up hills and through scenic landscapes.  This workout can benefit everyone from beginner to world class cycling enthusiasts. Are you new to cycling?  Try a Beginner cycling class. Level I-II class

Fitness Interval Training   Intervals of high intensity cardiovascular training, mixed with strength, power, plyometrics, sports moves, agility and coordination drills. Level II-III class.

FitBall – Get in All-Around Shape!  Use exercise and stability balls to do various yoga movements and exercises that enhance balance and flexibility.  Plus, build your functional strength.

Train your core – your abs and lower back-to get a strong foundation for the activities you do every day.   Level I-II  class

Hatha Yoga  This class is designed to increase strength, flexibility and balance and improve mental health through breathing techniques and static stretching. We offer a variety of yoga classes including gentle, beginning, flow yoga, and outdoor classes.  (Vinyasa-flow, Hatha- held poses)  (Iyengar yoga uses blocks, blankets, and is therapeutic).

Mindful Heart is gentle and restorative.  Level I- II class

Healthy Back  Relieve those chronic back problems in this class that is designed to strengthen the muscles in your back.  Matwork and ball work is included.  Level I-III class

Line Dancing  Have fun and  learn the latest line dancing steps.  Great music, great friends, great workout!! All ages and level are welcome! YeeHaw!!  Try Line Dance Basics for beginner level.

Muscles in Motion  This class focuses on perfecting your form in various formats: Body Pump, Yoga,  WillPower and Grace and Pilates.  Lets get Back to Basics!  All levels welcome.

NIA  Build strength, flexibility, and agility in this easy-to-follow dance fitness class.  Nia combines dance arts, martial arts, and yoga-inspired exercise in a balanced cardio, strengthening, and toning workout.  Take off your shoes and get in shape in this fun class of great moves and great music.   Level I & II class

Pilates (Basic Mat)  This class features the classic movements of Pilates all performed on a yoga mat.  Learn proper breathing techniques and develop your balance as you increase flexibility and improve your posture.  You’ll strengthen your core and lengthen and tone your muscles.  Pilates Plus has an aerobic warm-up.  Level I   If you’ve mastered basic Pilates, try Intermediate/Advanced Pilates class. 

Healthways  SilverSneakers®  Classic   Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills.  Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.                                      

SilverSneakers Circuit- Easy- to- follow advanced class to improve cardiovascular conditioning. Low-impact standing choreography alternated with safe, fun and effective exercise for upper-body strength work.  Level II -III

SilverSneakers® Yoga  will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.  Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.  Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.  Level I class

Step (Beginner)  Learn basic and intermediate step movements in this great workout.  Easy to follow cardiovascular segments are followed by mat work to tone abs and lower body. Great for beginners!  Level I-II class  Step/Strength(Intermediate)  This class builds those basic skills you learned in step basics class into more intricate patterns and choreography.  Intervals of cardio and strength work are offered. Level I-IIII

Strength & Tone   These well-balanced workouts feature a gentle warm-up, low impact strength, toning and stretching exercises.  This class is designed for the advanced, beginning or returning exerciser.  This class is a great way to exercise and make new friends!  Great class for those over 50!   Level I-II

Tai Chi   Incorporates postures from tai chi and yoga that are easy to learn and representative of the beauty of Tai Chi, without having to memorize all of the traditional forms.  Level I-II class

willpower & grace®  is a sweaty, dynamic fusion of high intensity cardio components: martial arts, pilates, and yoga movements. This workout is equipment free; barefoot, and infused with positive, strengthening philosophy.   Level I-III  class

Zumba Gold  Dance the pounds off!!  This Latin-style fitness class incorporates fun, easy-follow- Latin dance styles- Salsa, Samba, Meringue, Socca, and Flamenco and mixes in a little Hip-hop, and Belly dance.   This is a great workout for all ages and abilities.  Give us a try!   Level I-III class. You can also try Zumba Basics class for a review of basic dance moves, and a lower-impact and intensity option.
