Welcome to Y Academy

The YMCA offers safe, affordable and professional preschool programs at the University Hills/Schlessman YMCA. Staff members partner with parents and caregivers, working together to help kids grow up healthy, happy and strong.

Like all Y programs, Y Academy is open to all, with financial assistance available.
Infant Care

A caring family environment for babies starting at 6 weeks of age.

  • Full-time care, Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm
  • Low caregiver-to-infant ratios
  • Separate play rooms and sleep rooms
  • Support for nursing mothers - Refrigerators for breast milk and rocking chairs so moms can drop in during the day to feed their babies
  • Age-specific development activities

Toddlers

A loving place to grow, learn, and play.

  • Full-time care, Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm 
  • Low teacher-to-child ratios 
  • Two toddler classrooms  
  • Dedicated playground
  • Age-specific development activities

Preschool

A close-knit learning environment focusing on kindergarten readiness 

  • Full-time or part-time programs
  • Low ratios 
  • Three age-specific classrooms 
  • Curriculum developed in line with kindergarten entry requirements of Denver Public Schools
  • Focus on learning through play and hands-on experiences
  • Part of the Colorado Preschool Program and the Denver Preschool Program for eligible families. Contact Julie Cataldo for specific requirements. 
  • Interactive assessments by Teaching Strategies GOLD. This is an authentic, ongoing observational system that gives parents real-life examples and information about how their children are learning and developing
